Root Canal Filling / Endodontic treatment
Following your post operative instructions carefully will provide you with the quickest, most comfortable healing.
  • Continue Vitamin C intake as directed 1000 mg daily
  • Continue 3 Advil tablets every 6 hours for 5 days
  • If you have any pain then add 2 Extra Strength Tylenol up to 4 times daily
  • It is not uncommon to experience intermittent sensations as the afflicted tooth heals; however, if you encounter persistent pain please contact Dr. Montgomery or Dr. Newkirk.
  • Continue with daily intake of 2 liters of water.
  • "Chase" all procedure related medication with 6-12oz of carbonated beverage for effective absorption.
  • Brush and floss your mouth after each food consumption experience.
  • Ice packs can be used on the outside of the mouth to prevent swelling. DO NOT USE HOT PACKS ON THE FACE OR JAW.
  • Take all prescribed medications as prescribed
In some cases provisional restorations (temporaries) may be required.
  • Provisional restorations (temporaries) can be a challenge for eating, speaking, and cleaning. Please be attentive to their care.
  • Do not eat hard food on your temporary restorations such as nuts, chips, ice, etc.
  • Avoid "tough" foods such as steaks, jerky, celery, etc. on your temporary restorations.
  • Avoid "skinny" foods such as lettuce, tomato skins, etc. on your temporary restorations.
  • Loose or broken temporaries occur occasionally, however this is not an emergency unless you are in pain or your smile is damaged. Please call our office on the next business day and save the loose or broken piece.
